this is the groups opening attemp to defien briggate

Briggate represents a social hierarchy of Leeds with a diverse collection of shops catering for wide range of society. The centre and spine of the retail quarter of Leeds. A necessary node which intakes and redistributes consumers around all surrounding circulatory streets. The credit crunch and the larger recession that we are currently entering are putting a squeeze on peoples finances. How will the results of a reduction in consumer spending affect Briggate. Can Briggate be seen as a character for wider society and how it will feel the pinch in the recession. The affluent north and the more value orientated south.

I think it's fair to say that there are differences in the shops to the north and south of Briggate but is this only exaggerated, when compared to other 'high streets', due to the perception of Harvey Nichols, etc? What you see towards the south of the street are by no means [generally] the very bottom end of the market, they're still mostly high street retailers?
